Sedation Dentistry

Pearl Dental Care is committed to providing each patient with the most relaxing and caring atmosphere possible while delivering first class dental care treatment. We understand that for many folks the fear of dental work is very real and can keep them from getting the care they need. To that end, we offer our patients sedation dentistry.

Sedation dentistry is an ideal means to put a patient at ease, and for patients wishing to complete treatment in a minimal number of visits. It allows them to sit for extended procedures without the anxiety.

Sedation dentistry often makes it easier for patients to allow oral work if they have a gag reflex. Sedation is administered intravenously prior to treatment and allows the patient to remain conscious, but otherwise unaware of the work being done yet still able to respond to requests from the dentist.

IV Sedation for a Relaxing Dental Appointment

Sometimes referred to as "sleep dentistry", IV sedation actually doesn't "put you out" so much as put you at ease to facilitate dental work. You'll be aware of what's going on generally, though you may not have recollection of the procedure after it's completed.

The purpose of IV sedation is to make you as comfortable as possible for the duration of your treatment and alleviate the stress that many feel at their dentist's office. So then the sedation is used, as the name implies, as a sedative or anti-anxiety drug, not a pain killer. You will receive injections that will numb the area getting treatment so that you won't feel any pain.

If your treatment is going to include IV sedation, you should expect to experience short term memory loss while the sedation is still in effect. You should also arrange for transportation to and from the office for your visit, as your sedation will include taking a pill one hour prior to your appointment. If you have a phobia or anxiety about dental treatments, contact Pearl Dental Care today to schedule an appointment for sedation dentistry.
